Lights Out: Cinematographer Jon Simonassi captured some pretty sweet footage of lightning striking Toronto’s CN Tower during a “wild and intense” thunderstorm that hit Hogtown last week.

[hyst.]

Indeed that was a light show when I was driving home that day. Lots of thunder & lightning.

First Day at the New Job

So get this, before I was hired, my manager looked me up, read this blog and told me that’s what he did. At first I was a bit shocked, but relieved at the same time because he had a genuine interest in who I was. Who knew that my blog would’ve extended this far? I just made my first baby step as a Marketing Analyst at Nielsen, the largest market research company in Canada (and in the world, they are in about 80 countries). Where do I wanna go with this? Anywhere the wind takes me, but most importantly, a new challenge and something stable would be fitting in the current stage of my life.

I just wanted to write about how things are going since I haven’t updated this blog for a long time during my return to Toronto. The next step is to continue working hard, I’ll be moving out in a year to the new condo when it is built and hopefully Jess and I will live happily ever after. Oh, and I love dragon boat all over again. Jetstart is a fantastic team that I’m a part of.

How have you guys been doing?

There really is no place like home.

Friday night I arrived back in Toronto, and boy does it feel good to be home. I had a reverse culture shock for a day, and then everything subsided. I couldn’t help myself but compare every little thing about Toronto back to Korea. From the variety of food, to the intense multiculturalism of our city.

The next day (Saturday), I went to my friend Jennifer’s birthday party and then immediately headed downtown to Ryerson to watch the new dragon boat crew.

It was nice to see fresh faces. I view the dboat team as my baby, and will always do. When I used to be in charge, I worked countless hours into the team… til the point of absurdity and obsession. Conversations would only be orbiting around the dragon boat team… haha.

As I have travelled, there really is no major difference in the goals that all of us are trying to achieve. Personal growth, money, a loving relationship, some solid friends, having some stuff and if possible: a great family that you can always count on.

In the final words of Conan O’Brien before he left the Tonight Show: “Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen.”

Oh yeah, and NO, I DON’T miss Korean Food. YUCK.
